Whimsical Weddings at the Enchanting House of the 7 Gables Captured by Tom Waldenberg

The House of the 7 Gables is one of those venues that’s difficult to believe exists. It serves as the backdrop for one of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s most renowned novels (also titled The House of the Seven Gables), and its fascinating history along with stunning grounds make it a premier wedding location in Salem, Massachusetts.

Jill & Josh’s wedding, which took place under a light drizzle at the House of the 7 Gables, was undeniably a highlight of my 2024 calendar. Their engagement shoot earlier in the year was a delightful, spirited, and inventive experience, solidifying our bond as F4L (FRIENDS 4 LIFE). This incredible pair operates their own print & design studio, ensuring that the design aspects of their celebration would be spot on (and indeed they were).

Even with sporadic rain throughout the day, the House of the 7 Gables provided a stunning backdrop for this June wedding. The vibrant flower gardens served as a wonderful exploration area for both children and adult guests alike. Given its location in Salem, Massachusetts, out-of-town visitors had ample opportunities to explore before and after the wedding day (including a welcome gathering boat cruise that I also captured through photos).

While it’s not primarily a wedding venue, The House of the 7 Gables features a dedicated section for wedding planning on their website. Pricing is clear, and the venue provides multiple options for ceremonies, both indoors and outdoors. Even if your wedding is entirely outdoors, akin to Jill & Josh’s, the lawn can be tented to handle any weather issues. Additionally, the venue includes a day-of coordinator as part of the overall package.
