HarperCollins Holland is set to acquire the lifestyle imprints Altamira, Becht, Dominicus, and Hollandia, along with their respective teams, from publisher Gottmer Uitgevers Groep (Gottmer) starting 1st March 2025.
This initiative will further enhance HarperCollins Holland’s standing in the trade book sectors in the Netherlands and Belgium. The inclusion of the lifestyle imprints will broaden the HarperCollins Holland non-fiction catalog to comprise areas such as culinary arts, healthy living, spirituality, travel, and watersports.
Additionally, as part of the agreement, Vaarbewijs Academy, a boating license training platform, will also become a member of the HarperCollins Holland portfolio.
Jan-Joris Keijzer, managing director of HarperCollins Holland stated: “The lifestyle imprints Altamira, Becht, Dominicus, and Hollandia possess a remarkable publishing legacy, outstanding authors, and exceptional works, having established themselves as robust brands relied upon by generations of readers.
“We take pride in welcoming these brands and their amazing supporting team members under the framework of the HarperCollins publishing group, and we are eager to collaboratively shape the future of the publishing house.”
Post-acquisition, Gottmer will dedicate its efforts entirely to the children’s book sector. Marius van Campen, business director at Gottmer Uitgevers Groep, commented: “With HarperCollins, we have found a partner that can facilitate the further growth of the lifestyle imprints and their staff. For our organization, this transition means concentrating on the titles and characters of Gottmer children’s books and Big Balloon. In that regard, we have a distinct ambition to enhance reading enjoyment among young people.”
Chantal Restivo-Alessi, CEO for International Foreign Language and CDO at HarperCollins Publishers, added: “Holland represents a critical market in our international portfolio and one where we identify significant growth opportunities. This acquisition will empower us to boost our market share and position ourselves for sustained growth in this sector.”
