Splashing Back Into Competition: Swim & Dive Takes On Lehigh in Epic Dual Meet

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- The Marist swimming and diving team is preparing for its initial competition of 2025 versus Lehigh at the McCann Natatorium, Saturday afternoon.

The competition is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on Red Fox Network.

The men’s squad aims to remain unbeaten, achieving a flawless 5-0 record in 2024 and 3-0 in MAAC competition. In their final match of 2024, the Red Foxes triumphed over Colgate 158-98.

The women’s squad intends to carry on its impressive season, concluding 2024 with a 3-2 record and a 2-1 MAAC standing. The Red Foxes secured a 180-115 victory against Colgate at the McCann Natatorium to finish 2024.

The Red Foxes wrapped up the 2024 season at the Patriot Invitational, with the men’s team securing fourth place (out of seven teams) and the women’s team finishing sixth.

 

• April Avila had a record-breaking performance at the Patriot Invitational. Avila established a new Marist and MAAC record in the 100-yard breaststroke. She shattered the school record in the preliminary round of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.66, placing first in the heat.
  
  • In the final heat, Avila set a new MAAC record and surpassed her own school record, clocking in at 1:00.94. Avila secured first place in the final heat at the Patriot Invitational.

• James Conable also achieved a record-breaking weekend at the Patriot Invitational. Conable set a new Marist program record in the 200-yard IM finals at the Invitational, placing first and recording a time of 1:47.13.
• Caden Hardy established the Marist school record in the 200-yard breaststroke at the Patriot Invitational. Hardy completed the race with a time of 2:00.41, setting a new mark for the school.
• Concluding the Patriot Invitational, Kellen Fletcher set the school record in the 200-yard butterfly. Fletcher finished with a time of 1:48.50, which earned him second place overall in the finals of the event.

• The Lehigh men’s team approaches the meet with a 4-4 overall record and a 2-1 standing in the Patriot League.
• The Red Foxes maintain a 4-3 overall advantage all-time against the Mountain Hawks. In their encounter during the 2023-24 season, the Red Foxes edged out a thrilling victory 140-139.
• The Mountain Hawks have engaged with one MAAC adversary before this match, defeating Rider 115.5-138.5 in their opening competition of the season.

• The Lehigh women’s team enters the competition with a 5-3 overall record and a 2-1 status in the Patriot League.
• The Red Foxes possess a 5-3 overall record all-time against the Mountain Hawks. Last season, the Red Foxes lost to Lehigh 192.5-105.5.
• The Mountain Hawks secured a victory against Rider in their opening contest of the season, winning 216.5-79.5.
