LYNNFIELD — Local travel photographer Sue Collins has been designated as the featured artist of the Lynnfield Art Guild for a duration of six weeks, commencing on January 15 on the LAG’s website at lynnfieldarts.org.
During this period, residents can view Collins’ artworks under the members’ section of the LAG website at lynnfieldarts.org/sue-collins. Afterward, her photographs will remain accessible on the LAG website under the “featured artists” category.
“Sue’s creations are motivated by a deep passion for exploration and adventure,” stated LAG spokesperson Beth Aaronson. “Venturing around the globe with her camera, she captures the splendid beauty and variety of our planet, from lively urban environments to tranquil natural vistas.”
Collins utilizes a Nikon Z50 with lenses reaching up to 500 mm. She expressed gratitude for the support and mentorship she has received from the community at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester. Instructor Eddie Soloway has “assisted me in mastering the fundamentals of composition, lighting, and the art of storytelling through visuals.” Collins firmly believes that “participation in local art initiatives, such as the Lynnfield Art Guild, is essential for any artist striving to enhance their craft.”
Influenced by Impressionist painters like Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh, Collins is planning a journey to Monet’s residence in Giverny and Van Gogh’s home in Arles, France, this spring.
“I have always valued travel, a consistent aspect of my life since my college years when I first explored the world with friends,” remarked Collins. “My experience as a travel agent in Iowa expanded my views, reinforcing my belief in the beauty that our world presents and leading to the creation of a women’s travel group a decade ago that has thrived and nurtured connections among individuals who share a passion for travel but may not have compatible companions.”
For over three decades, Collins has resided in Wakefield, sharing this journey with her husband Kevin and son Anthony.
“Every press of the shutter captures not merely an image, but a narrative of connection, discovery, and beauty,” said Collins. “The thrill of uncertainty regarding my next encounter, as well as the adrenaline rush I experience when capturing that ideal shot, shapes me both as a photographer and as an individual, urging me to continually evolve and develop in my craft. Ultimately, it’s not solely about the photographs, but about the memories and feelings they elicit, frozen forever in time.”
Collins’ creations are available for purchase; she can be reached at suecollinsphotography@gmail.com.
“The Guild takes pride in showcasing Sue Collins’ creations and encourages the public to visit its website lynnfieldarts.org,” said Aaronson. “For more information about the leading arts organization in Lynnfield, check out the Guild’s Facebook and Instagram pages at Lynnfieldarts.”
