LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University’s track and field program will officially commence its indoor season as the Knights engage in the Rod McCravy Memorial hosted by the University of Kentucky on Friday and Saturday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.

This event is the second of a consecutive series of six competitions to be held at the Norton SLC, with the ASUN Indoor Championship also set to take place at this venue.

Here’s a glimpse at the 2025 Knights:

  • In this season, Bellarmine Hall of Famer Jim Vargo has returned for his second term as the director for men’s and women’s cross country/track and field. During the fall, the Bellarmine men’s XC secured fourth place and the women achieved sixth at the 12-team ASUN Championship. Redshirt junior Chase Atkins was honored with second-team All-ASUN recognition for the men’s team, while junior Sierra Oesterling received third-team All-ASUN honors for the women’s team.
  • The men’s distance medley relay and the 4×400 relay squads captured silver medals at last season’s ASUN Indoor Championship. Three members from both relay teams are returning: senior Nolan Hester, junior Jackson Gordon, and Atkins for the DMR, while Gordon, sophomore Carter Olmsted, and junior Zander Hooten for the 4×400. Both groups established new program benchmarks during the conference meet.
  • Gordon and Hooten both earned a second silver medal at the ASUN Indoor Championship, with Gordon’s in the 400 and Hooten’s in the 60 hurdles.
  • The women’s 4×400 relay team earned a bronze at the ASUN Indoor Championship, with most of the unit returning, including sophomore Raven Payne, junior Jansen Story, and senior Chloe Freilinger.
  • Additional contributions from the 2025 returners at last season’s ASUN Indoor Championship included Freilinger, who finished fourth in the women’s 400, and junior Alysia Hurtado, who placed eighth in the weight throw. Junior Alex Hooten secured fifth in the men’s 800, Atkins took sixth in the 3000, and Olmsted finished seventh in the 60 hurdles.
  • At last season’s ASUN Outdoor Championship, Payne earned a silver medal in the women’s 400.
  • Gordon, Zander Hooten, and junior Zac Hutslar are returning athletes from the 4×400 relay team that captured a bronze medal at the ASUN Outdoor Championship. This trio contributed to establishing program records in both the 4×400 and 4×100 relays.
  • Bellarmine boasts significant talent returning from other scoring events at the ASUN Outdoor Championship; Gordon finished fourth in the men’s 400, sophomore Clinton Bass took fifth, and Olmsted placed sixth in the 110 hurdles, while Hutslar landed seventh in the 200 and Alex Hooten was seventh in the 800. Senior Luke Wunsch achieved eighth in both the hammer throw and discus. Freilinger placed fifth in the women’s 400, sophomore Jacey Harding was seventh in the 400 hurdles and eighth in the 100 hurdles, and sophomore Amelia Svidal finished sixth in the triple jump. Junior Avery Koch ranked fifth in the discus, and sophomore Haden Wolfe was eighth, while Hurtado placed sixth in the hammer throw.
  • Among current Bellarmine athletes, Gordon holds the men’s indoor records in the 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, and 1,000. Atkins has the top record in the 3000, as does redshirt junior Paul Stamm for the 5000, Zander Hooten for the 60 hurdles, and redshirt sophomore Alex Cole for the weight throw. Freilinger possesses the women’s indoor program records for the 300 and 600.
  • Among the active Bellarmine athletes, Hutslar is the men’s outdoor record holder in the 200, Gordon in the 400, Atkins in the 5000, and Stamm in the 10000. Zander Hooten has the leading outdoor record in the 400 hurdles, as does Cole in the discus. Senior Taylor White holds the women’s program record in the 3000 steeplechase, and Svidal leads in the triple jump. Along with the aforementioned men’s relay record holders, Payne, Freilinger, and sophomore Annie Somwe collectively set a new women’s program record in the 4×400.
