After delivering a ball at the T20 Cricket World Cup in Trinidad And Tobago, West Indies bowler Andre Russell exhibited quick reflexes to field his own delivery – a moment that photographer Darrian Traynor successfully captured.

Cycling

As the E3 Harelbeke cycling competition in Belgium goes through the quaint locality of Kluisbergen, the butchers of Vande Walle halt their activities to witness the cyclists zoom past. They enthusiastically support Belgian champion Wout van Aert.

Football

Jacob Bruun Larsen is depicted in his ideal surroundings as the Hoffenheim winger advances during a Bundesliga encounter. Fortunately, photographer Max Krause was positioned pitch-side and observed the action.

A competitor during the Safari Rally in Kenya seemed completely uninterested in reducing speed as he approached zebras crossing the path. Fortunately, photographer Anton Anestiev chose to take the photo in color instead of black and white.

After securing gold at the Olympics, Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina created substantial waves with a striking celebration. “It’s not entirely a surf photograph, so it draws the gaze of more individuals,” mentioned photographer Jérôme Brouillet after his image became a sensation.

Rugby union

Taking place in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Pau, this Extenso Super sevens event at Stade du Hameau was soaked in rain. French photographer Romain Perrocheau captured what became the finest rugby photograph of the year with this shot.

Tennis

Having excelled on the clay courts of Roland-Garros, where he amassed a remarkable 14 titles throughout his career, it was perhaps appropriate that Lionel Hahn’s image of Rafael Nadal exiting the court at the French Open in May was preferred by the judges.
