PRINCETON, N.J.- Mitchell Schott poses a risk to achieve something extraordinary every time he enters the pool. The Princeton junior accomplished this once more on Friday evening, as he set a new school record in his sole individual race of the night, this time in the 1,000 freestyle.

Schott swam a time of 8:52.19 in the 1,000, securing the Princeton record and leading a Tiger sweep with a 1-2-3 finish during Day 1 of Princeton’s tri-meet against Kenyon and the Naval Academy. Princeton concluded the Friday session of the meet with substantial leads over both opponents, 147-58 against Navy and 168-35 against Kenyon.

Schott’s performance in the 1,000 was nine seconds faster than teammate Santiago Gutierrez’s 9:01.54, who in turn surpassed Connor Buck by 14 seconds, who finished in third place. Schott also participated in Princeton’s victorious 400 medley relay, anchoring the top finish alongside Tyler Hong, Patrick Dinu, and Conor McKenna. Princeton secured a second place in the relay as well, with Parker Lenoce, Andrew Zou, Logan Noguchi, and Daniel Li.

It was a remarkable evening for Zou, who also claimed second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 53.38, a mark that became both the Princeton freshman record and an NCAA B qualifying time.

The competition commenced with a Princeton victory in the 200 free relay featuring Brett Feyerick, Dinu, Yanning Zhang, and McKenna. Noah Sech triumphed in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:47.09, achieving a B standard time. Teammates Arthur Balva (second) and Maxwell Seidel (fourth) followed close behind him to the finish.

Dinu secured the win in the 200 free, with Lenoce finishing third, while the Tigers dominated the 100 backstroke by finishing 1-3-4, led by an NCAA B time of 46.78 from winner Tyler Hong, followed closely by Zhang and Feyerick. Balva took the victory in the 200 butterfly, with Noguchi following in second and Hunter Kim in third. Feyerick claimed the 50 free title.
