Dominant Win: Men’s Basketball Triumphs Over UAlbany to Boost America East Record to 2-1

Orono, ME – The University of Maine’s men’s basketball team triumphed over UAlbany, advancing to a 2-1 record in America East play with an 87-66 win on Saturday afternoon.

Maine established an early 6-0 advantage with three consecutive made shots to kick off the game.

Albany briefly took the lead at 10-8 before Maine fought back to reclaim the lead, extending it to eight points at 24-16 with 7 minutes left in the first half.

The Black Bears increased their lead to double-digits at 31-18 after a corner three-pointer from Logan Carey with 5 minutes to go in the first half.

Maine maintained their double-digit margin into halftime, leading 43-31 at the break.

Kellen Tynes excelled, recording 8 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

AJ Lopez and Christopher Mantis each contributed 9 points, leading the Black Bears in scoring.

Jaden Clayton added 6 points, 4 assists, and a steal.

The Black Bears expanded their lead in the second half with a 10-2 run, creating a 20-point game at 53-33.

Maine never relented, securing their second-largest winning margin in an America East game under Coach Markwood with a final score of 87-66.

Mantis topped all scorers with 17 points off the bench for the Black Bears.

Tynes concluded with 10 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals.

Both Clayton and Lopez notched 16 points for the Black Bears, while Quion Burns recorded a game-high 9 rebounds.

Maine (10-8, 2-1 AE) will head on the road for their next three conference contests, beginning with NJIT on Thursday, Jan. 16. The game is set to tip off at 11 AM.
