Flashes Ignite the Season with Tri-Meet Triumph!

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics squad commenced its 2025 season on Friday at the MAC Center, achieving a tri-meet victory against Fisk and Wilberforce. The Flashes initiated the season with an impressive all-around team score of 193.775, outperforming Fisk’s score of 189.075 and Wilberforce’s score of 141.375.

ROTATION 1 – VAULT

Kent State opened the event on vault with a combined total of 48.450. The standout for the Flashes was Nene Alvine, who achieved a score of 9.825 in her inaugural official collegiate vault attempt. Additionally, Avery Compson, in her first collegiate vault, garnered the second-highest score for Kent State with a result of 9.700.

ROTATION 2 – BARS

As the competition progressed, the Flashes recorded a 47.775 on the bars. Dani Fuertez, recently identified as a MAC gymnast to watch this season, led the Flashes with a score of 9.800 in this event, matching her career-best on bars as a sophomore. Senior captain Brynne Tsipis recorded Kent State’s second-highest score on bars with a 9.725.

ROTATION 3 – BEAM

The Flashes showcased their best performance of the evening on beam, achieving a score of 48.775. At the forefront was Alyssa Guns, whose score of 9.850 was tied for the highest among all events for Kent State. After competing solely on the beam during her freshman year, Nene Alvine kicked off the season with a score of 9.800, second-best among the Flashes.

ROTATION 4 – FLOOR

Kent State concluded powerfully on the floor, where they replicated their beam efforts with another score of 48.775. Dani Fuertez shone in this event, recording a share of the highest score in the meet at 9.850. Guns also wrapped up her senior opening night impressively, scoring 9.825 in the final event to aid the Flashes in their tri-meet victory.
