PROVO, Utah – The UC Santa Barbara swimming squads displayed their competitive spirit during a closely contested matchup against Brigham Young University (BYU). The women’s group delivered an impressive performance, finishing in first place with a total score of 146–116. Conversely, the men’s team encountered fierce competition and ultimately lost to BYU, with a score of 101–161.

HOW IT UNFOLDED

The women achieved significant results in the 200-Yard Medley Relay, where the squad comprised of CoCo Quill, Ashley Ray, Makena Leacox, and Miranda Stevenson secured first place, edging BYU by a mere 0.11 seconds. In the 1000-Yard Freestyle event, Annie Andres secured second place with a time of 10:36.48.

On the men’s side, Kyle Brill achieved first place in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 55.32 in a fiercely contested race. The men’s 200-Yard Freestyle Relay team achieved a commendable second place, trailing behind BYU’s record-setting swim. The Gauchos achieved a time of 3:02.29.

For the men, Austin Sparrow spearheaded UC Santa Barbara with triumphs in the sprint freestyle events and delivered strong contributions in relay events.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Gauchos will remain in Utah for a double dual meet against the University of Utah and UCLA tomorrow, Jan. 11. The meet is slated to commence at 10 a.m. Pacific Time in the Ute Natatorium.
