TEMPE, ARIZ.- The Gopher swim and dive teams suffered defeats against Arizona State on Friday evening. The No. 24 Gopher men’s team lost 206-94 to the No.3 ASU men’s team. The No.23 Gopher women’s team fell 191-109 to the No. 14 ASU women’s team.

A record-setting night unfolded for senior Bar Soloveychik, who established a new school record in the 1000 free with a finishing time of 8:52.82, securing first place in this event. His prior record was 8:52.95.

Bar also achieved first place in the 500 free with a time of 4:19.31.

Senior Eliot Kennedy and sophomore Katie McCarthy secured the top two positions respectively in the women’s 1000 free. Kennedy clocked in at 9:34.79 while McCarthy registered 9:43.11. Kennedy also claimed second place in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.92.

Sophomore Anja Kaljevic took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.05.

In the diving area, the women achieved a one, two, three finish on the one meter. Vivi Del Angel secured first with a score of 301.05, Elna Widerstrom came in second with a score of 298.05 and Addie Albrecht followed in third with 284.55.

On the three-meter board, the Gophers once again occupied the top three positions. Del Angel finished first with 296.10, Widerstrom took second with 279.68, and Kate LaMonica placed third with a score of 267.68.

In men’s events, junior Drew Bennett achieved first place on the one meter with a score of 346.95.

YuTong Wang dominated the three meters, finishing first with 417.00, while Bennett ranked second with a score of 376.20.

The Gophers will return to competition next Saturday, January 18th as they face the University of Arizona Wildcats at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Arizona.
