AMES, Iowa – The Brown gymnastics squad achieved a score of 190.300 in their season-launch competition on Friday evening at Iowa State, marking the third consecutive season where Brown surpassed the 190-point milestone at their season debut.

This signifies only the second occasion in the history of the program that the Bears have amassed over 190 points in three successive season-openers, joining the teams from 2013-2015.

In total, host Iowa State secured the first position with a team tally of 195.100, followed by Iowa with 194.575 and the Bears in third place. Brown’s beam score of 48.550 was the best of the event.

Brown commenced on bars with a score of 47.100, featuring junior Liza Marcus in fourth place with 9.750 and senior Maya Davis tying for fifth at 9.700.

Moving to beam, the Bears achieved their top score of the event at 48.550 leading all contestants, spearheaded by sophomore Emily Ford with a score of 9.800, placing seventh overall. Sophomores Lindsay Van Eyk and Lindsey Yang both received scores of 9.725, tying for ninth.

On floor, the backend of the Bears’ lineup dominated with senior Julia Bedell and Yang both tying for fourth overall with scores of 9.750. Freshman Avery Walters delivered a commendable 9.700, placing eighth overall. The team collectively scored 47.075 in this event.

In the final event on vault, Brown posted 47.575 with Bedell taking the podium in third place with a score of 9.825 and junior Sophia Dewar tying for ninth with a score of 9.750.

Brown is set to return to competition next Saturday at Southern Connecticut State for a quad meet against the Owls, Bridgeport, and Springfield.
