MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The swimming teams for both men and women at West Virginia University faced defeats against Pitt and George Washington at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh this Saturday.



 

The men’s swimming and diving squad (0-3) was defeated by Pitt, 227-70, and by George Washington, 184-110. The women’s swimming and diving squad (0-3) also suffered losses, falling to Pitt, 240-57, and George Washington, 190-104.

 

Sophomore Maddie Smutny was the sole Mountaineer to secure a victory in an individual event, finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.53).

 

Senior Conner McBeth achieved two podium placements, taking third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.38) and in the 100 free (45.13).

 

Newcomer Natasha Whittall earned a second-place result in the 200-yard backstroke, reaching the finish at 2:01.17.

 

In the diving section, junior Abigail Sullivan claimed second place on the platform (246.30) while sophomore Owen Recker secured third with 319.85 points.

 

West Virginia is set to host Duquesne (women only) and Villanova for senior day on Saturday, Jan. 25, at The Peak Health Aquatic Center in Morgantown. The program will celebrate seniors before the commencement of the meet.
