Surfer’s Stunning Snapshot Takes Home Gold at 2025 World Sports Photography Awards!

The World Sports Photography Awards 2025, a notable yearly photography contest, has officially revealed the winning images for this year, each showcasing the splendor of athletic performance.

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, numerous visuals gained immense popularity on various platforms, spotlighting almost every renowned sport imaginable. Nevertheless, one image, in particular, captivated the internet.

While Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina was airborne after leaving his surfboard on a wave, a swift photographer managed to capture a shot of him mid-leap. Medina’s dynamic stance, the gorgeous setting, and the expert photography culminated in a breathtaking image.

The photographer behind the lens was the seasoned Jerome Brouillet, who entitled the image “Golden Moment,” as mentioned on the Olympics website.

According to the Olympic website, more than 13,000 entries were received from 96 nations. Of all the submissions, Brouillet’s image was awarded Gold in the ‘Aquatic’ category.

On Brouillet’s official site, he characterizes himself as “a fervent admirer of surfing and the natural world.”

“It took hours, days, nights, and weeks for me to determine what to do with this remarkable photo. After this image has journeyed across the globe multiple times, through all types of media, shared on social media channels of celebrities such as Lewis Hamilton, Neymar, Kirk Hammet, forums of discussion, and in various conversations… People inquired what I intended to do with this transformative image, and if I would be selling limited and numbered prints and at which price,” Brouillet mentioned on his website.

After thorough reflection, he resolved to sell his prints as open editions, as he wishes to “make this photography perpetually accessible to everyone.”

The ‘Aquatics’ category also featured stunning images captured by Henrique Casinhas and Stefan Wermuth, who received Silver and Bronze respectively. The complete list of winners is available directly on the World Sports Photography Awards.
