Several significant fires persist in Los Angeles as of Friday, wreaking havoc on residences and businesses while compelling major attractions to shut down.

The two most substantial fires — the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire — collectively have obliterated upwards of 9,000 homes, businesses, and other buildings, as the Los Angeles Times noted. By Friday morning, the Palisades Fire had consumed over 19,000 acres and was just 6 percent controlled, while the Eaton Fire had engulfed more than 13,000 acres with no containment measures in place.

Although operations at nearby airports are mostly unaffected by the fires, several prominent airlines have prolonged their flight waivers through January 11, including United Airlines, American Airlines, and JetBlue. Delta Air Lines has established a waiver valid through January 12.

Numerous travel-related companies have risen to assist travelers and residents in the Los Angeles area, such as Uber, which is offering ride credits up to $40 to specific shelters until January 15. Evacuees must enter the promo code “WILDFIRE25” in the wallet section of the Uber app before requesting a ride to avail of the discount.

“We’re collaborating with local authorities and emergency services to ensure everyone in need of evacuation assistance receives a ride,” Camiel Irving, Uber’s vice president of operations, stated in an announcement. “We’re maintaining close communication with state officials and are prepared to do everything within our power to support those affected by the fires.”

Likewise, Lyft is providing ride credits up to $25 with the promo code “CAFIRERELIEF25.” This code is active for up to 2,000 riders through January 15.

Hotels throughout the city are extending complimentary or reduced rates to those who have been displaced, and Airbnb is facilitating free, temporary accommodations.

Major attractions across Los Angeles remained closed on Friday, including the Griffith Observatory and the Getty Center and Villa. Nevertheless, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk intended to reopen on Friday with customary operating hours.
