MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -The snow may pose a challenge for many in the Mid-South, but a large number of individuals embraced it as a reason to enjoy themselves.

For children particularly, Friday brought two enchanting words: “Snow day”.

We kickstarted the day at Mud Island, chatting with a group of kids about their excitement upon realizing they had the day free.

Their unified response was simply: “Yeah! Yeah!”

These young lads were geared up and ready for their liberated day of enjoyment, packed with sledding, snowball skirmishes, and a little bit more.

“Oh I was just really thrilled to get outdoors and play with all my friends,” expressed Jake Breen. “Even if things get a bit chaotic, I mean we’re still having a blast.”

When questioned if it turns chaotic playing in the snow, Breen remarked: “Oh yeah, it’s like WWE.”

Breen’s companion Jack McKee added: “It’s gonna get intense.”

There was nothing intense over at the Overton Park Shell, where a large assembly of individuals spanning all ages were enjoying the sledding.

Occasionally, you have to think outside the box, much like Mindy Baier and her family.

“My son and his cousins wanted to go sledding today,” Baier detailed. “We had one from a few years back during a snowstorm. We had to locate three sleds, so we raided the attic and found some cardboard boxes and said ‘We can make this work.’”

The snow may be a nuisance, but in a region where it rarely falls, it also presents a unique chance for family bonding.

“Yeah it’s so enjoyable,” Baier said. “I mean it just doesn’t occur often, so it’s memorable when it does. We were so excited when it started snowing last night.

“We woke up this morning and exclaimed ‘It actually happened, there’s so much snow’, and it was really enjoyable.”

So much enjoyment, the team over at Mud Island wouldn’t mind witnessing it happen more frequently.

“More snow,” was the collective opinion of the group.

“We can construct igloos if we get more.”
