GRANVILLE, Oh. – The Calvin men’s swimming and diving squad wrapped up a weekend tour throughout Ohio with a triangular competition on Saturday afternoon at Denison University, which also included Carnegie Mellon. All three teams entered the contest nationally ranked, with Denison in second place, Carnegie Mellon in eighth, and Calvin in ninth.

Junior Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Il./Downers Grove North HS) had an exceptional performance, triumphing in the 100 backstroke (48.52) and the 200 backstroke (1:49.50).

Senior David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School) also shined, securing victories in the 50 freestyle (20.15) and the 100 butterfly (48.29).

Senior Logan Campbell (Yorkville, Ill. Yorkville) secured second place in the 100 butterfly (49.40) and finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (51.80).

Graduate student Vlad Molin (Rolling Meadows, Ill. Rolling Meadows) achieved second place in the 50 freestyle (20.70) and third place in the 100 freestyle (46.09). Senior Josh Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) finished fourth in the 100 freestyle (46.41) and sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:43.35).

Junior Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Il./Mt. Prospect HS) had a strong performance, taking second in the 200 butterfly (1:51.48) and third in the 400 IM (4:07.41).

In the distance events, sophomore Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville HS) placed fifth in the 1000 freestyle (9:47.63) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:44.66).

Junior Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Oh./Home School) finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.32) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (57.12).

Senior Wil Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) secured third place on the one-meter diving board (315.00) and third again on the three-meter board (283.40).

Calvin’s 200 freestyle relay team, consisting of Bajwa, Molin, Seidelman, and Platt, clinched first place with a time of 1:20.62. The 200 medley relay team of graduate student Corey Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), Hays, Molin, and Seidelman finished fourth with a time of 1:31.14.

Calvin will be back in action next Friday as they compete at Oakland University in a dual meet scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
