Although Samsung has not yet introduced its Galaxy S25 series, speculation about the Galaxy S26 collection is already gaining traction online. A recent report emerging from South Korea suggests that Samsung may be gearing up for a notable display enhancement for the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

It is said that the company is developing a Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology for the screen, which could result in a thinner, brighter, and more energy-efficient display. Importantly, Samsung has previously implemented CoE technology in select models of the Galaxy Z Fold series.

Rumours About Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Display

A report from The Elec indicates that Samsung plans to use CoE technology in the Galaxy S26 Ultra to enhance energy efficiency and light transmittance. This innovation removes the requirement for traditional polarizing plates in OLED displays, substituting them with a colour filter. Moreover, the standard Pixel Define Layer (PDL) is replaced by a black PDL.

By eliminating the polariser layer, the display panel can become thinner while achieving superior light transmittance, which lowers overall power usage. The black PDL is anticipated to minimize internal light reflections, resulting in increased brightness for the screen. Additionally, the colour filter applied on a Thin-Film Encapsulation (TFE) is expected to enhance colour accuracy while also safeguarding the OLED panel from moisture and oxygen, ultimately leading to improved durability and performance.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is speculated to be the company’s inaugural bar-style smartphone featuring advanced display technology. This advancement could enable Samsung to produce slimmer devices without compromising display quality. Previously, Samsung rolled out Colour Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology in its foldable Galaxy Z Fold range, starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021. Most recently, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which was released last year, also integrated this advanced display feature.

Regarding the remainder of the Galaxy S26 lineup, reports indicate that the standard and Plus variants may come equipped with Samsung’s own Exynos processors. Conversely, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to be driven by the latest Snapdragon flagship chipset from Qualcomm, underscoring its premium status within the series.
