Cortland, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz faced off against SUNY Cortland on Saturday, losing in both the men’s and women’s categories, 166-85 and 162-83, respectively.
 
On the men’s front, Antonio Vavalle achieved a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.50. He also secured another second-place position in the 100-freestyle with a time of 50.83, narrowly trailing first-place (50.49). Jack Wirth triumphed in the 200-backstroke, finishing first in 2:04.44, and also took second place in the 100-backstroke with a time of 57.33. Jack Samko came in second for the 50-freestyle (22.53) and the 100-butterfly (55.12).
 
Samuel Debbie emerged victorious in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:53.22, narrowly ahead of Cortland’s second-place finisher who clocked in at 4:54.31. The 400-freestyle relay team from SUNY New Paltz, comprised of Wirth, Samko, Paul Castner, and Vavalle, finished first with a time of 3:26.48.
 
On the women’s side, Candela Sandoval obtained first place in the 200-butterfly, excelling with a time of 2:26.16, which was 11 seconds faster than the second-place swimmer. Brianna Law took second in the 100-freestyle with a time of 1:03.37, while Chloe Jeffares closely followed in third place, finishing with a time of 1:03.98. Sage Vadney secured second in the 200-backstroke, registering a time of 2:28.41. Erin Donovan clinched first in the 400-individual medley, finishing in 5:46.57.
 
The Hawks’ 400-freestyle relay group comprising Molly Synder, Law, Abigail Keiser, and Naomi Levey finished first with a time of 3:40.23, while SUNY New Paltz’s second relay team of Sophia Bucci, Annabella Perez Salvi, Jayme Fink, and Jeffares clocked in at 4:20.91.
 
SUNY New Paltz will be back in competition on Jan. 18, concluding its home meet schedule against Ramapo at 1 p.m. at Elting Pool.
