“Reepham Resident Captures Dream Moment at Motorsport Photography Awards”

A part-time motorsport photographer described receiving a national accolade as a “pinch me moment”.

Craig Evans, aged 27, from Reepham, close to Aylsham, Norfolk, began his photography journey during his AS-Levels, stating that capturing motor racing images merges his two greatest interests.

Last month, he was honored as Motorsport UK’s Young Photographer of the Year.

Mr. Evans expressed that he hoped the recognition would elevate his career and allow him to pursue photography on a full-time basis.

“There have been moments when I contemplated, perhaps this isn’t meant for me, maybe I should pursue something more secure,” he mentioned.

“Yet the accolade served as a reminder that I am still engaged in what I cherish.

“Indeed there have been obstacles along the path but I am determined to keep at it.”

Mr. Evans remarked that he discovered a passion for motorsport as a child when he was “set in front of the television in a highchair” to observe Formula 1.

In 2019, he acquired his first photography credential from the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) – the global governing body of motorsport – and has since covered events including F1, British GT, Touring Cars, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

He has also captured photographs of races in Barcelona and Singapore.

Nevertheless, the majority of Mr. Evans’ endeavors have been financed through part-time positions in hospitality.

“When I secured the award, I somewhat found it hard to accept,” he remarked.

“This has been a hobby of mine and something I have thoroughly enjoyed for such a long time – to have it acknowledged felt really gratifying. It was an actual moment where I had to pinch myself.

“I just wish for it to serve as a bit of a launching pad. I aspire to reach a point where I can solely dedicate my attention to this because I adore it, and it’s something I aim to pursue full-time.”

Mr. Evans is set to be celebrated at Motorsport UK’s awards evening in London later this month, where he will be awarded a trophy alongside a £1,000 cash prize.

Motorsport UK serves as the authoritative body for four-wheeled motorsport within the UK.
