HONOLULU–The women’s tennis squad from the University of Hawai’i concluded the Weinman Foundation Invitational on Saturday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. On the last day of the event, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 17 Southern California, and Hawai’i competed exclusively in doubles matches to wrap up the four-day tournament.

The UH pairing of Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova secured Hawai’i’s sole victory on the day, although the Rainbow Wahine performed admirably on Saturday. Vilcek and Homolkova prevailed over Texas A&M’s Mia Kupres and Jeanette Mireles, 6-4 in the opening round of doubles matches.

Hawai’i’s duo of Joelle Lanz and Emma Forgac put forth great effort in both of their matches, but both resulted in them losing in tie-breakers. In their initial match, Lanz and Forgac were narrowly defeated by USC’s Grace Piper and Lily Fairclough, 7-6 (7-4). In their second match, Lanz and Forgac were edged out by Texas A&M’s Lucciana Perez and Daria Smetannikov, 7-6 (9-7).

UH’s Peppi Ramstedt and Sheena Masuda played competitively but succumbed by a break in both of their matches on Saturday. Against Texas A&M’s Nicole Khirin and Lexington Reed, Ramstedt and Masuda lost 7-5 and later fell to USC’s Sloane Morra and Janna Hossam, 6-4.

The Rainbow Wahine will have several days to recover before they embark on a pair of dual matches next week. First, UH will face Nevada on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10:00 a.m. HT, followed by Washington on Friday, Jan. 17 at 3:00 p.m. HT.
