Aquatic Showdown: Swim & Dive Teams Face Off Against LIU, Edge Out by Sharks

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College swimming and diving teams for both men and women hosted LIU at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool on Monday, Jan. 13. The Sharks emerged victorious in both competitions, defeating Le Moyne’s men’s team, 158-136, and the women’s team, 176-118.

Women’s Team:
The relay group, which included junior Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland), sophomore Madeleine O’Dea (Milton, O.N./Milton District), freshman Kim Velazquez (Fairfield, C.T./Fairfield Warde), and sophomore Kayleigh Bigwarfe (Glenmont, N.Y/Glenmont), secured second place in the 200-yard medley with a finishing time of 1:53.60.

Sophomore Abigail Jaros (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) achieved second place in the 1000-yard freestyle, with a time of 11:48.44.

Senior Brenna Horan (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point/SUNY Geneseo) took second in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.68) and the 50-yard butterfly (28.75).

O’Dea finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:10.05, and secured second in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.23.

Bigwarfe claimed second place in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing at 55.72.

Freshman Shannon Swezey (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) earned second in the 500-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 5:35.36.

The combination of Sommo, sophomore Lucy Catalano (Glenville, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), freshman Kaiya Fraley (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker), and Bigwarfe achieved second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:48.69.

Freshman Gabby Williams (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) successfully claimed first place in both one-meter diving events with scores of 173.70 and 230.70, respectively.

Men’s Team:
The freshman team of Jake Griffin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), Lucas Clay (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), and Jack Milligan (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), alongside sophomore Justin Enser (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), finished second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.82.

Freshman Michael White Jr. (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) captured first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.45 and took second in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:49.40.

Clay finished first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststrokes, concluding with times of 27.12 and 59.04, respectively.

Freshman Alex Pilieci (Ottawa, O.N./John McCrae) achieved second in both the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.21 and 400-yard IM at 4:23.34.

Enser secured second place in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing at 21.92.

Sophomore Michael Han (Auckland, N.Z./Pakuranga College) claimed the first position in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing at 48.37.

The relay team composed of White, Enser, Milligan, and Clay concluded the event with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, timing in at 3:13.29.

Sophomore Adam Kaszovitz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) took first in the opening one-meter diving event, scoring 161.50.

Junior Patrick Scott (Utica, N.Y./New Hartford/Niagara) secured the top position in the second one-meter diving event with a score of 263.85.

The Dolphins will be back in action at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool hosting Niagara University at 1:00 p.m.
