Bromsgrove Honors the Legacy: A Commemoration of the Holocaust

Community members are encouraged to join the Vice-Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr Bakul Kumar, and Rev Ray Khan later this month for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Service.

Annually, a ceremony is conducted for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) to commemorate the millions who were murdered during the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution, and in later genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr Sam Ammar, stated: “As we recognize the theme of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, ‘For a Better Future,’ it is crucial for our community to take a moment to contemplate the immense suffering inflicted by the Holocaust. By acknowledging this somber past, we can more effectively understand the persistent injustices experienced by many globally today.”

“We encourage all community members to partake in this significant moment of contemplation, honoring those who have faced agony and suffering due to dehumanization and animosity. Let us work towards a world abundant in peace, love, and respect, united as one human family, devoid of divisions.”

The Bromsgrove Memorial Service is scheduled to occur in Sanders Park, at the Bandstand and Memorial plaque, at 11am on Monday 27th January. The gathering is open to everyone.

The brief service will also include participation from several local middle and high schools as well as speakers from various faiths.

This year, across the nation, the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is “For a Better Future” and the aim is HMD can serve as an opportunity for individuals to unite, learn from and about the past, and take steps towards a better future for all.

During the Holocaust, 11 million individuals, including six million Jews, were systematically exterminated in Europe between 1941-45 by the Nazis and their accomplices. It stands as the worst genocide in history.
