TITLETOWN (NBC 26) — With the Packers away, there’s no lack of enjoyment being experienced in the vicinity of Lambeau Field.

  • Watch ice skaters relish the brisk air at Hy-Vee Plaza
  • Introduction to a family that journeyed from Appleton to skate and tube at Ariens Hill
  • The skating rink at Titletown remains open until early March, contingent on the weather conditions

The Packers may not be present this weekend, but there’s an abundance of fun and entertainment taking place in Titletown. I’m Pari Apostolakos and I chatted with some winter enthusiasts in the shadow of Lambeau Field.

Michelle Johnson and her relatives traveled to Hy-Vee Plaza from Appleton on Sunday.

“We’ve been eager to tube here and it’s been shut down, and now it’s finally reopened with the colder weather we’ve been experiencing so we opted to skate and tube today,” she stated.

10-year-old Ayden Johnson mentions that winter days like this contribute to making it one of his favorite seasons, among other reasons.

“Playing in the snow, hot cocoa,” Ayden stated, enumerating all the elements that make winter significant for him. “The ice rink is enormous.”

Derek Fischer and his sister Allison from Green Bay also visited the rink on Sunday.

“I actually started [ice skating] about two years ago. My friends and I just wanted to come here and go ice skating. I had never attempted it before,” Derek shared. “I don’t know how to stop yet, but we’ll manage eventually.”

“We have a pond in our backyard, so we practice on that and then we come here because the ice is very well-maintained and it’s really enjoyable to skate on,” Allison explained. “Because we have the chance to try various tricks and turns.”

This Packers game day may have been taking place in Philadelphia, but the Green and Gold spirit was vibrant and thriving in Packers territory before the game commenced.

“Hopefully the Packers can secure a win — go Pack go,” Derek remarked.

“Go Pack go,” Ayden echoed.

The skating rink is open until the initial weeks of March, depending on the weather.
