CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman Police Department initiated Coffee with a Cop events over ten years ago — a method to connect law enforcement officials and community members through dialogue and engagement.

The department is set to hold its upcoming event on Wednesday, January 29, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene.

CPD Community Relations Officer Adam Clark stated that Coffee with a Cop is a community-enhancing venture intended to promote fruitful interactions between law enforcement personnel and the citizens they serve.

“It was first established in Hawthorne, California, in 2011, and has since proliferated across all 50 states and abroad,” Clark remarked. “The aim of the program is to provide a chance for informal, candid discussions. This fosters relationships that may not develop during standard policing, particularly in emergency circumstances. The idea is straightforward: there’s no predefined agenda — just coffee and conversation.”

Clark mentioned that this approach enables officers and community members to interact in a casual setting where they can converse about local matters, express concerns, and establish personal connections.

“The lack of set topics nurtures an open and friendly environment,” he explained. “Our inaugural Coffee with a Cop was around 11 years ago at the Main Avenue Jack’s site. Since then, we have hosted them at various restaurants and cafes, but our most well-attended one was at Cullman Cosmetic and Family Dentistry. It felt like the entire neighborhood turned out.”

Pastor Joe McNulty from Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene has invited Clark and Police Chief Joey Duncan to address the audience during the event.

“While the official kickoff for Coffee with a Cop begins at 4:30 p.m., we will have the chance to talk to the congregation concerning forthcoming events and the future of the Cullman Police Department,” Clark noted. “This presents a wonderful opportunity to engage with community members, respond to inquiries, and emphasize the department’s vision for the future, all while savoring a laid-back cup of coffee together.”

Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene is situated at 321 Third St. SE in Cullman. For additional details regarding the event, please reach out to the Cullman Police Department.
