President Biden Unveils the Inspiring Names for CVN 82 and CVN 83

I am delighted to declare that the upcoming two Gerald R. Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers will bear the names of two past presidents: Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

When I personally conveyed this news to Bill and George, they were genuinely honored. Each understands the significant responsibilities that accompany the role of Commander-in-Chief. They both recognize our obligation to assist the families and loved ones who anxiously await the secure return of their military personnel.

The future USS William J. Clinton (CVN 82) and the future USS George W. Bush (CVN 83) will commence construction in the forthcoming years. Once completed, they will integrate into the most proficient, adaptable, and skilled Navy that has ever ventured to sea. They will be manned by Sailors from every part of the United States, who will navigate these vessels into peril, safeguarding our interests abroad and our security at home.

These Sailors will exemplify not only our strength but also the strength of our example. Our nation remains appreciative of them, their families, and all the skilled shipyard workers who will bring these vessels to fruition.

May God safeguard all who serve aboard the USS William J. Clinton, USS George W. Bush, and every other ship within our fleet. And may God continue to bless our troops.
