EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women’s tennis team commenced their 2025 season by sending two Spartans to participate in the Michigan Invitational this weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Spartan duo of Amara Brahmbhatt and redshirt-sophomore Hanna Tsitavets teamed up with Eastern Michigan to compete against participants from No. 8 Michigan, No. 15 Ohio State, and Texas Tech.

Matches commenced on Friday with both Spartans engaging in singles encounters. Brahmbhatt faced a Michigan opponent, Bayley Sheinin, and excelled in her match, winning 6-4, 6-2.

Tsitavets also confronted a Michigan competitor, Ava Bruno, ultimately losing her match 6-2, 6-2.

The two Spartans proceeded with the day in a doubles contest against the Texas Tech pair of Elena Daskalova/Arina Oreshchenkova. While the MSU duo put forth a strong effort against the ranked pair, they were unable to conclude the day with a victory.

Competition continued on Saturday with Brahmbhatt and Tsitavets again both participating in singles and doubles matches.

Brahmbhatt delivered another win for the Spartans against her Eastern Michigan rival, Marta Komar, securing her match 6-1, 6-2. While Tsitavets fought hard, she could not clinch a victory.

The Brahmbhatt/Tsitavets partnership faced the No. 61 ranked Julia Fliegner/Reese Miller from Michigan in doubles. Although the Spartans managed to score points against the highly-ranked duo, they ultimately fell short, losing the match 6-3.

The event concluded on Sunday with Brahmbhatt and Tsitavets finalizing the tournament. Brahmbhatt took part in a concluding singles match against another Michigan opponent, Emily Sartz-Lunde, and displayed another strong effort in the game.

The tournament culminated with the Brahmbhatt/Tsitavets duo competing against Ohio State’s Nao Nishino/Sophia Cisse. The match extended into extra points, with both teams making a determined push for victory. Ohio State ultimately claimed the match, 7-6 (8-6).

MSU women’s tennis is set to return to dual match competition on Friday, January 17 in Spokane, Washington against Gonzaga at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT and will face Washington State on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.

Michigan State will host Xavier on Friday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center in the Spartans’ spring home opener.
