GREENVILLE, North Carolina — The UNT men’s basketball squad returns to Minges Coliseum on Tuesday nearly a year since achieving one of the most thrilling game-winning plays in recent Mean Green lore.

North Texas (11-4, 2-1) and East Carolina (9-8, 1-3) are set to tip-off on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be aired on the Mean Green Sports Network, powered by Learfield and on ESPN+.

In their previous encounter at East Carolina last season, UNT triumphed over the Pirates 60-59 with a full-court in-bound pass from Aaron Scott followed by a game-winning layup by Robert Allen in the closing moments of the game. Neither team led by more than seven points throughout the match, and there were eight lead changes in the one-point victory for the Mean Green.

The Mean Green completed a sweep over the Pirates last season, securing another win at the Super Pit, 84-69, later in the year.

UNT holds the advantage in the all-time series against ECU, 4-1. They have emerged victorious in their last three meetings with the Pirates.

North Texas approaches Tuesday’s game having claimed five out of their last six contests, with their most recent victory being against Rice at home, 81-59. This marked their largest winning margin over a conference rival under second-year head coach Ross Hodge. The only defeat in the past month came on the road against the nationally ranked Memphis, 68-64.

The Pirates recently faced the same Memphis team away from home and also suffered a narrow loss by four points. They nearly executed a double-digit comeback against the ranked Tigers. ECU has dropped four of their last five games, but all five were decided by single digits.

The game on Tuesday at East Carolina marks the beginning of a two-game road trip for the Mean Green. They will visit UTSA on Saturday before returning home to face Temple on January 22.
