BERKELEY, Calif. — The University of Hawai’i men’s and women’s diving squads will participate in the three-day Cal Invitational from Thursday to Saturday (Jan. 16-18) at the Legends Aquatic Center in Berkeley, California.

The Cal Invitational showcases a field of nine teams, including UH, UCLA, USC, Denver, Fresno State, BYU, Stanford, Utah, and the host California Golden Bears.

Last weekend during the Harvard & Arkansas tri-meet, Macie Wheeler led the Rainbow Wahine with top five finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. The freshman secured third place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 284.70 and attained fourth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 306.00. Ruby Pickron also made the top five with her fifth-place finish in the 1-meter dive, achieving a score of 263.65.

Freshmen Lovisa Gustavsson and Avery Coates both ranked in the top 10 in the 3-meter dive. Gustavsson placed eighth with a score of 290.45, followed closely by Coates in ninth with a score of 285.50.

Rainbow Warriors Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo and Brandon Shepherd faced off in exhibition events against one another during the tri-meet. Tamayo triumphed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, achieving scores of 297.20 and 355.55 respectively.

The Cal Invitational marks the first competition for the Rainbow Warriors diving team since their participation in the SMU Invitational in late November.

Three divers will collaborate to complete a six-dive list, incorporating a dive from each category with no more than two from any of the various apparatuses (1-meter, 3-meter and platform).
