WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HEADING TO HUNTINGTON
- James Madison is set to conclude its regular-season matchup against Marshall on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The contest in the Cam Henderson Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
- In their last game, Peyton McDaniel attained a season-high of 29 points on 9-of-19 (.474), scoring 21 in the second half, as JMU triumphed over Georgia Southern, 85-68, inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Saturday afternoon, marking their fifth straight victory.
- The Dukes converted 25-of-30 (.833) free throws and restricted Georgia Southern to a season-low four offensive rebounds. JMU excelled on the boards, out-rebounding the Eagles 46-31.
- Zakiya Stephenson achieved a career-best nine rebounds, along with nine points and six assists. Kseniia Kozlova secured 12 points, four rebounds, and one block in 19 minutes on the floor. Annalicia Goodman contributed 10 points and a season-high eight rebounds from the bench.
- The Dukes possess three top-40 performance metrics nationally: defensive rebounds per game (T-15th – 29.5), rebounds per game (T-28th – 41.94), and three-point shooting defense (38th – 26.4).
- Individually, McDaniel ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference for scoring (15.3 ppg) and fifth for rebounding (7.8 rpg).
- Marshall achieved a road-best 45.0 percent (27-of-60) shooting from the field; however, Old Dominion made 12-of-25 (.480) from beyond the arc and connected on 18 shots (18-of-29) from the line for an 80-75 victory on Saturday.
- The Herd holds two top-10 marks nationally: three-point attempts per game (5th – 30.6) and three-pointers made per game (8th – 10.1).
LAST ENCOUNTER WITH THE HERD
- Ashanti Barnes scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her third Division I double-double in leading James Madison women to a 71-59 home victory over Marshall on Jan. 9.
- Barnes made 8-of-13 (.615) from the field and was perfect from the free throw line at 9-for-9, adding four assists. Peyton McDaniel hit 3-of-5 (.600) from three-point range for 15 points and stole the ball three times. Bree Robinson netted a career-high 12 points and recorded three steals, while Jamia Hazell contributed eight points.
- JMU enjoyed advantages in points scored in the paint (34-22), points off turnovers (24-14), bench scoring (19-12), and fast break points (15-9).
AWAY WARRIORS
- Since joining the Sun Belt in 2022, the Dukes hold a record of 33-15 (.688) in games outside the secure environment of the Atlantic Union Bank Center, highlighted by a 16-4 (.800) record in their first season in the new conference. The 12 true road victories that season equaled the program record from the 2006-07 and 2014-15 seasons, both achieving records of 12-5 and 12-1, respectively.
- JMU has recorded a 4-1 mark in their last five away games, with their most recent win against Texas State, 81-60, on Jan. 4.
THE DUKES AGAINST THE SUN BELT
- James Madison boasts an 85-68 (.556) record when facing current Sun Belt Conference opponents and stands at 36-11 (.766) since joining the conference in 2022.
- The Dukes have squared off against Old Dominion more than any other SBC competitor, trailing 53-30 in the historical series. Furthermore, ODU is the only team in the league that has a favorable record against JMU.
- JMU remains undefeated against Louisiana (5-0), Southern Miss (3-0), Texas State (3-0), Arkansas State (2-0), South Alabama (2-0), or ULM (1-0).
