Miami Dominates NIU in Thrilling Conference Clash on Tuesday Night

TUESDAY: Miami embarks on a five-game winning streak and prepares for its fourth conference match of the season at Northern Illinois on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. As they approach this matchup, the RedHawks hold the fifth position nationally in effective field goal percentage (0.588), seventh in three-pointers per game (11.2), seventh in three-point shooting accuracy (.404), 12th in field goal shooting percentage (.499), 13th in turnovers generated per game (16.13), and 14th in turnover differential (4.9). Miami also tops the MAC in 10 statistical categories, including scoring offense (83.5). 

ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Northern Illinois is coming off an 11-20 (5-13 MAC) record in 2023-24. Head coach Rashon Burno is in his fourth year with the Huskies. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll positioned the Huskies to place 11th in the conference.

Northern Illinois currently holds a 4-11 (0-3 MAC) record, having lost its last three matches. The Huskies have four players averaging double-digit points, including Quentin Jones (15.8), James Dent Jr. (12.8), Quaran McPherson (10.4), and Ethan Butler (10.2). Jones also leads the team in assists per game (3.1), while Dent Jr. has the highest average in rebounds per game (5.1). Butler leads in blocks per game (1.4), whereas McPherson (1.2) and Jones (1.1) are the leaders in steals per game. 

THE SERIES WITH THE HUSKIES: Tuesday will mark the 57th confrontation between Miami and Northern Illinois. The RedHawks enter this contest leading the series 35-21. Northern Illinois has the edge in DeKalb, leading the series 15-11. The last matchup between Miami and the Huskies occurred on Feb. 6, 2024, where the Red and White lost 59-62 in Oxford.

LAST TIME OUT: The Miami University men’s basketball team triumphed over Western Michigan 91-71 on Saturday afternoon. Kam Craft led all players with 23 points, with three additional RedHawks also scoring in double figures. This victory marks the first time since the 2005-06 season that the RedHawks have gone 3-0 in conference play. The Red and White recorded over 20 assists for the fifth consecutive game and achieved more than 50% shooting from the field for the eighth time this season.
