Winter Weather Alert: Prepare for Snow and Travel Disruptions Ahead!

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Snow flurries are arriving in 21Country, adding a touch of the winter season to the region.

First Alert Meteorologist Brian Barrett provides insights on how long the snow is expected to remain, and he also forecasts the dangerously frigid weather anticipated for early next week.

Travel Advisories have been announced for Adams, Allen, Jay, Wells, and Wabash counties, per the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS).

An “Advisory” is categorized as the least severe local travel advisory, IDHS states, indicating that normal travel may be hindered due to deteriorating road conditions. The IDHS Travel Advisory Map for statewide conditions can be accessed here.

The head of the Allen County Office of Homeland Security, Bernie Beier, mentions that the intense snowfall in the area has diminished visibility and rendered local roads slick and dangerous.

He provided the following recommendations for drivers:

• Reduce speed.
• Allow extra distance between vehicles.
• Accelerate and decelerate gently.
• Change lanes or turn gradually when necessary.
• Avoid using cruise control.
• Drive only as fast as conditions allow.
• Visibility is significantly impaired. Do not exceed the limits of your view.
