Beloved USA Swimming Massage Therapist Dr. Brian Campbell Passes Away at 68

Dr. Brian Campbell, a massage therapist for USA Swimming and UCLA, has passed away at the age of 68.

USA Swimming confirmed Campbell’s passing through Instagram on Monday.

Campbell collaborated with U.S. swimmers for many years. He held the position of head massage therapist for the U.S. Olympic Swim teams during the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Games. He also worked with Team USA for numerous other international competitions, such as World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, and World University Games.

Most recently, Campbell served as a massage therapist at UCLA for 13 years. He was involved with the swimming & diving, gymnastics, golf, tennis, and men’s basketball squads.

Before his time at UCLA, Campbell practiced as a massage therapist at the Touch Therapy Institute and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic.

Several prominent figures in USA Swimming, including Michael Phelps, Ryan Murphy, Natalie Coughlin, and Bob Bowman, expressed their condolences to Campbell on Instagram.

Breeja Larson conveyed an emotional tribute through a video on her Instagram story regarding the passing of Campbell.

“Brian Campbell. Incredible individual,” Larson stated with emotion. “He possessed a very strong, nurturing, paternal aura. Thank you for being so exceptional and assisting so many of us.”
