This life transition was accompanied by the exploration of the expansive terrains and untamed nature synonymous with North America. Neil was born and raised in Montreal, where he pursued studies in Film & Communications at McGill University prior to moving west to Toronto in 1998. During this period, the first digital cameras started to surface, and Neil was immediately captivated. A payment of $1400.00 secured him a 1.3 megapixel Olympus.
Neil was privileged to travel worldwide and hone his distinctive style of panoramic, landscape photography. Utilizing a Phase One, medium format camera, Neil’s exceptional technique and methodology produce a unique appearance that is readily identifiable. Each finished piece comprises numerous images taken with different exposures and focal points, all expertly combined to transport the viewer to a specific time and location.
Becoming a fixture in the Toronto art community, Neil was represented by the esteemed Lonsdale Gallery. Over the subsequent four years, Neil’s work was showcased in multiple solo exhibitions at the gallery.
In 2013, Derek and Kirsty Stern joined Neil on a photographic expedition to Africa. The journey was ideal, leading to the planning of many more adventures, including Bora Bora, Hawaii, Iceland, China, Japan, France, and Bolivia, among others. In 2015, Neil, Derek, and Kirsty established Kandy Gallery in Montreal. Shortly thereafter, Neil received a commission from Hotel X Toronto for what would become the largest fine art photography deal in Canadian history. He dedicated nearly three years traveling internationally to capture over 800 landscape images for the exclusive luxury resort hotel. Early in 2018, Neil inaugurated Kandy Gallery Toronto in the lobby of Hotel X Toronto, followed by the December launch of Kandy Gallery Memphis.
