The Texarkana Arkansas Division of Parks & Recreation is calling on fishermen to Trout Day at Lake Dieffenbacher, situated within Ferguson Park next to the Fairgrounds, on Saturday, January 25. The event kicks off at 9:00 a.m., providing free entry and an opportunity to reel in some rainbow trout—with the exciting chance to win prizes.

The lake will be replenished with rainbow trout, and among them, a few Golden Trout will be present, which might grant fortunate anglers special rewards. It’s a splendid chance to catch some fish, unwind by the lake, and savor a delightful free event.

We had a discussion with several local event planners ahead of the occasion to learn more about the thrilling preparations. Adam Dalby, Director of Parks & Recreation for Texarkana, Arkansas, conveyed that the event is intended to be enjoyable for all age groups, ensuring there’s something for everyone—from novices to experienced fishermen.

“We’re truly thrilled to provide this complimentary event for the community,” Dalby expressed. “Lake Dieffenbacher is an excellent location for fishing, and we’re hopeful that the weather will cooperate for a day of family-oriented outdoor enjoyment.”

Dylan Hahn and Maurice Jackson from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, along with T.J. Wall from INVST TXK, also contributed to the event’s specifics, assuring that this day will be unforgettable.

“Whether you’re angling for prizes, or simply savoring the experience, we want everyone to have a fantastic time,” Hahn remarked. “And for those who wish to take their catch home, volunteers will be there to clean and prepare your trout, or you can have it prepared by our chef on-site.”

Speaking of culinary options, the chef will be crafting some mouth-watering fish dishes inside the Pavilion, including Smoked Trout Dip, Smoked Cajun Trout, Fried Trout, and a unique Trout Avocado Pico De Gallo. If you’re feeling peckish after a long day of fishing, you’ll have the option to enjoy what you catch or try some expertly made trout dishes.

And for those interested in something a bit larger, Lake Dieffenbacher is recognized for its hefty bass. Just keep in mind, it’s a catch-and-release area for bass, but you can retain the trout and catfish you capture.

As a reminder, anglers aged 16 and above will require a valid Arkansas Fishing License and a trout permit to take part. These can easily be acquired online or from local sellers.
