Chico State Spotlight: Celebrating a Nationally Awarded Photographer’s Triumph!

University photographer Jason Halley (Communication Design, ’05) received second place for his image capturing two Chico State cross country teammates sharing a moment after a challenging race last autumn. The University Photographer’s Association of America granted Halley this recognition in the “Sports Features” category for his work, Agony of the Finish. The image shows Wildcats Mario Giannini (left) embracing Daniel Hernandez (right) at the men’s 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, where the Wildcats achieved a sixth place finish. Michael Drummond serves as the media relations coordinator for Chico State. A Pulitzer Prize finalist and former war correspondent, he has authored “Renegades of the Empire” and enjoys activities like surfing and fishing.
