Two additional schools in East Yorkshire have received council recognition for their efforts in promoting the health and wellness of children and youth.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council initiated its Healthy School awards in October, following a preliminary project.

North Frodingham and Beeford primary schools have both secured the honor after Springhead Primary in Anlaby received it last year.

This accolade signifies a school’s dedication to several aspects, including nutritious eating, physical activity, and mental health.

Mel Wilson, safeguarding leader for both schools, which are part of a federation, expressed: “It’s vital for our students to enjoy engaging in the variety of healthy initiatives we have adopted.

“Students gain from experiences such as outdoor education, diverse school clubs like golf, football, archery, and dance, allowing them to explore various activities.

“They also get the opportunity to participate in school competitions against other institutions in sports like cross-country, dodgeball, and tag rugby.”

She noted that the schools were participating in a farm-to-table program to understand the origins of their food, along with anti-bullying workshops and assistance for mental health and wellbeing.

Beeford Primary School has also been acknowledged for its commitment to promoting health and wellness

Councillor Victoria Aitken, member of the cabinet for children, families, and education, commented: “The healthy school award contributes to enhancing health and wellbeing among children, which, in turn, improves school attendance, behavior, and achievement.

“The programs schools engage in will also crucially cultivate positive health habits in children from an early age, which will aid them in leading healthy, fulfilling lives and avert future sickness and conditions,” she further stated.
