SEATTLE, WA – Today, Governor-elect Bob Ferguson revealed that the second subcommittee of the Transition Team will concentrate on safeguarding Washingtonians against Project 2025. The agenda of Project 2025 encompasses eliminating access to abortion, widespread deportations, restricting access to voting, reversing LGBTQ+ rights, abolishing environmental safeguards, engaging in warrantless surveillance, destabilizing collective bargaining and workers’ rights, among other issues.
“We are gearing up in the event that President Trump launches an assault on the essential freedoms of Washingtonians,” stated Governor-elect Ferguson. “Regardless of what occurs at the federal level, we will advance Washington’s progress.”
The transition working group will be jointly led by Jennifer M. Allen, CEO of Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates (PPAA), and King County Councilmember Jorge L. Barón. At PPAA, Allen manages efforts to protect and promote reproductive health, rights, and justice across Alaska, Hawai’i, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, and Washington. Councilmember Barón served as the Executive Director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project from 2008 until 2023.
“I am privileged to assist Governor-elect Ferguson during his transition into this new position and to co-chair this essential subcommittee,” remarked Barón. “As an immigrant and the proud parent of a transgender daughter, I am particularly grateful for the Governor-elect’s commitment to safeguarding all residents of Washington State, especially those communities most vulnerable to attacks on their rights by the incoming federal government.”
“This is a pivotal moment in our nation as we face the potential of our communities being threatened from various fronts. I’m privileged to be part of Governor-elect Ferguson’s transition team and to co-chair this subcommittee in support of his leadership in our state and country in advocating for and protecting reproductive rights and the rights of all Washingtonians,” Allen expressed.
The subcommittee’s efforts will result in policy priorities for Ferguson’s first 100 days, aimed at reinforcing protections against the Project 2025 agenda. Further policy areas of focus for the Transition Team subcommittees will be disclosed in the forthcoming days.
