DENVER – University of Denver hockey senior netminder Matt Davis has been selected for the 2025 Mike Richter Award Watch List, as announced by the Hockey Commissioners Association on Wednesday.

Davis is one of 35 student-athletes currently nominated for the Mike Richter Award, which has been awarded annually to the leading goaltender in NCAA Division-I hockey since 2014. To be eligible for the watch list, a goaltender needs to maintain a goals-against average of 2.30 or below and a save percentage of .920 or above.

Additional names may be included for consideration prior to the first official vote.

With a record of 16-5-0 to date in 2024-25, Davis leads the NCAA in victories and boasts a 1.95 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage, and one shutout. He achieved a season-high of 44 saves on 46 shots on Jan. 4, 2025, against Maine—the highest number of saves in a regulation match of his career—and concluded the Jan. 3-4 series by stopping 73-of-76 shots, earning his second NCHC Goaltender of the Week title this season.

The Calgary, Alberta, native celebrated his 50th career win on Saturday in a 6-2 triumph over the Miami RedHawks, becoming merely the 13th Denver goalie to attain the half-century milestone. He presently ranks in the top 10 in program history for career goals-against average (2.11) and save percentage (.920) and is nearing that threshold with his 50 wins (13th) and five shutouts (13th) in 71 career games (64 starts).

Davis captured NCAA National Championships alongside the Pioneers in both 2022 and 2024, and he achieved a personal-best 20 consecutive victories from March 9-Nov. 14, 2024, which included recording three career-long shutout streaks during that period. His latest personal-best clean-sheet span reached 154:45 from Oct. 25-Nov. 8, 2024 (three games).

Denver has previously had one award recipient of the Mike Richter Award, with Tanner Jaillet earning the accolade in 2017.

In total, the NCHC has eight goaltenders listed on the Richter Award Watch List, with Davis being accompanied by Arizona State’s Gibson Homer, Minnesota Duluth’s Klayton Knapp, Omaha’s Simon Latkoczy, Colorado College’s Kaidan Mbereko, St. Cloud State’s Isak Posch, and Western Michigan’s Cameron Rowe and Hampton Slukynsky.

A voting committee—comprised of a diverse group of coaches, administrators, scouts, and media—will reduce this list to about a dozen semifinalists in the next three weeks, eventually choosing a winner from three finalists. The award will be declared in April during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis, Missouri.
