NORMAN – Oklahoma men’s gymnastics junior Ignacio Yockers has been recognized as the national Specialist of the Week following his performance in the Sooners’ season-opening victory against Air Force on Sunday, which included a score of 14.450 on the pommel horse, as announced by the College Gymnastics Association on Wednesday.

Yockers secured the pommel horse championship with his score of 14.450, marking the second-highest score in the nation during the first weekend (by 0.050 points). His contribution was instrumental in helping the Sooners achieve the highest score nationally (318.200) after the initial weekend of competition. The athlete from Tulsa, Okla., also earned a score of 12.750 on parallel bars and 12.300 on the horizontal bar. His high bar routine was his first-ever in a collegiate competition, where he participated as an alternate due to an injury substitution during the rotation.

This marks Yockers’ seventh career national weekly accolade from the CGA. He has been honored as specialist of the week six times and received the rookie of the week designation once during the 2023 season.

Oklahoma is heading to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend for the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, Jan. 18. The competition is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT at the Air Force Academy. The Sooners will return to McCasland Field House on Jan. 25 to face Illinois (5:45 p.m. start).
