With the “Tasks” feature, users are able to request ChatGPT to remind them or arrange recurring tasks, like weekly news summaries or daily weather briefings, according to media reports indicating that this update, which is currently under testing, will soon be available to paying users on OpenAI’s Plus, Team, and Pro plans worldwide.

As AI competencies continue to grow, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman recently voiced optimism that the organization has uncovered the route to artificial general intelligence (AGI), which could soon execute tasks akin to human capabilities independently.

Concerns regarding AI’s influence on employment

The introduction of this new feature coincides with increasing debates about AI’s potential effects on the employment sector. While detractors caution about job losses, industry executives contend that AI is intended to support, not substitute, human employees.

This update corresponds with worldwide endeavors to incorporate AI within the workforce, as part of which the UK government recently revealed an AI Opportunities Action Plan, aimed at amplifying AI usage to enhance productivity across various industries.

The release of ChatGPT in late 2022 ignited a wave of investments in AI enterprises, prompting Amazon to refresh its long-standing, financially struggling Alexa service with GenAI functionalities to remain competitive against GenAI-enabled chatbots.

In December, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that a revamped Alexa—engineered to execute tasks for users autonomously—was projected to be launched in the “upcoming months.”

Meanwhile, Apple has integrated its “Apple Intelligence” technology into Siri, leveraging ChatGPT’s features while ensuring that users provide authorization prior to accessing the OpenAI service as part of Apple’s partnership with the Microsoft-supported startup.
