Discovering the Heartbeat of Ivy League Excellence: Princeton University Unveiled

PRINCETON, N.J.- The men’s swimming and diving squad from Princeton will travel to compete against Penn State and Virginia Tech at University Park, Pa. Virginia Tech was listed as No. 19 in the December CSCAA rankings, presenting a significant challenge for the undefeated Princeton men’s team. The event is scheduled for Jan. 18, commencing at 10:00 AM.

 

Hot Schott

Mitchell Schott has displayed remarkable focus this season. The junior captain surpassed his own record in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:32.78 at the season opener, and hasn’t looked back since. Schott shattered the program record in the 100 freestyle during the Big Al Invitational, followed by setting new records in both the 500 and 1000 freestyles at Princeton’s tri-meet against Kenyon and Navy. He currently maintains four individual records and ranks within the top 10 in seven events.

 

Big Swims At Big Al

Matt Crispino‘s team achieved an impressive five record-breaking performances at the Big Al Invitational. The 400 freestyle relay assemblage consisting of Mitchell Schott, Brett Feyerick, Tyler Hong, and Patrick Dinu clocked a phenomenal 2:49.93, establishing a new program record. Schott had an outstanding weekend, claiming the program record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 42.44 and breaking the pool record in the 400 medley at 3:40.69. Dinu also recorded another freshman record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 19.61. Hong’s 200 backstroke record was briefly broken in the preliminaries on the final day by Parker Lenoce, who recorded a time of 2:42.51, but shortly thereafter, Hong reclaimed the record by trimming almost a full second with his 1:41.57 performance.

 

Remarkable Seniors

This weekend, the Tigers will celebrate the class of 2025, which comprises George Callanan, Finn Dowdall, Brett Feyerick, Tyler Hong, Max Hunger, Hunter Kim, Zev Schuman, and Max Seidel.

 

Pool Records To Princeton

During the competition at Columbia, five new pool records were established by members of the Princeton swimming & diving team. Yanning Zhang, Patrick Dinu, Logan Noguchi, and Brett Feyerick set a fresh record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:29.94. Zhang also set an individual record in the 100 backstroke, finishing at 47.13. Dinu followed up in the 100 freestyle with a time of 42.91. Mitch Schott shattered the pool record in the 200

butterfly by 5.5 seconds, and his time of 1:42.22 ranks as the second swiftest in the program’s history. The day concluded with the team’s performance in the 400 freestyle, featuring Schoot, Zhang, Noguchi, and Dinu, who clocked in at 2:54.26. 

Romanian Rocket

Patrick Dinu made an immediate impact in his inaugural collegiate competition on Nov. 9. The freshman set both a program and freshman record in the season’s first event at DeNunzio Pool. He achieved a time of 42.51 in the 100 freestyle, establishing a program record and another time of 53.49 in the 100 breaststroke for the freshmen record.

Diving Dominance

Aidan Wang has continued to set the pace for Princeton on the diving boards. The sophomore has dominated both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in every competition this season. Wang progressed to the finals on the 3-meter at the USA Diving Winter Nationals.

2023-24 NCAA Qualifiers

Aidan Wang, Luca Fassi, and George Callanan represented the men’s swimming and diving team at the NCAA Championships. Wang and Fassi took part in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter competitions, while Callanan competed on the platform. 

All-Ivy

The Tigers return eight members from their 2023-24 lineup who gained All-Ivy accolades. The First Team featured Aidan Wang (1-meter and 3-meter) and Noah Sech (400 individual medley). Tyler Hong earned Second Team recognition in the 200 individual medley. Brett Feyerick, Mitchell Schott, Daniel Li, and Lucas Tudoras were selected for Second Team All-Ivy in the 400 freestyle relay. Schott, Sech, and Max Hunger formed part of the Second Team All-Ivy 800 freestyle relay.

Olympic Moments

Princeton showcased swimmers and divers from 12 distinct nations participating in the Olympic trials. Yanning Zhang (Australia), Lucas Tudoras (Brazil), Parker Lenoce (Canada), Lucas Strøbeck (Denmark), Rasmus Makela (Finland), Santiago Gutierrez (Mexico), Patrick Dinu (Romania), Max Seidel (Switzerland), Arthur Balva (United States), Devyn Caples (United States), Luca Fassi (United States), Brett Feyerick (United States), Tyler Hong (United States), Daniel Li (United States), Conor McKenna (United States), Mitchell Schott (United States), Aidan Wang (United States), and Andrew Zou (United States) all sought qualifications for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. 

Adell Sabovic representedKosovo in the 100 meter freestyle and was the standard bearer during the closing ceremony.

 

New Kids On Deck

The Tigers have welcomed 10 new members to the class of 2028. Tomaz Chevres, Santiago Gutierrez, Patrick Dinu, Max Marcus, Logan Noguchi, Devyn Caples, Curan Palmer, Conan Chen, Benjamin Romig, and Andrew Zou complete the ensemble.
