PRINCETON, N.J.- The Princeton women’s swimming and diving squad is set to travel to Pennsylvania to compete against the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Virginia Tech Hokies. In their last home meet at DeNunzio pool, Princeton achieved commanding victories over Kenyon and Navy, right before they host the Ivy League Championships in February. The competition will commence from University Park, Pa. on Jan. 18 at 10:00 AM.

 

Sun Shines Bright

Eleanor Sun established the initial pool record of the season for Princeton at the Battle for the Cannon Trophy against Rutgers. The sophomore clocked in at 1:59.51 in the 200 IM setting a new benchmark in this event.

 

Running The Relays

Throughout the initial three meets of the season, Princeton has secured victories in the 200 freestyle relays. The Tigers have also amassed three wins in the 200 medley relay, along with skimming triumphs in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays at the Big Al Invitational.

 

2023-24 NCAA Qualifiers

Returning to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are four swimmers and three divers from the Tigers. Dakota Tucker participated in three events: the 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, and the 200 breaststroke. Eleanor Sun accompanied Tucker in both the 200 IM and 400 IM, in addition to competing in the 200 butterfly. Sabrina Johnston swam the 50 and 100 freestyle. Heidi Smithwick completes the roster of swimmers, having competed in the 200 butterfly.

 

Charlotte Martinkus, Francesca Noviello, and Maddie Seltzer represented Princeton in diving. Seltzer competed across all three boards, while Novielo and Martinkus participated on 1-meter and 3-meter.

 

All-Ivy

Princeton garnered three significant Ivy League honors and achieved First Team All-Ivy in 11 events as well as Second Team in eight events.

Head coach Abby Brethauer was honored as the Coach of the Year, while Dakota Tucker received the High Point Swimmer of the Meet award, and Ellie Marquardt ’24 earned the title of Career High Point Swimmer.

The season of 2023-24 was marked by Princeton’s 25th Ivy League Championship Title and their consecutive triumph. The Tigers amassed 1403 points throughout the competition. 

Olympic Moments

Dakota Tucker (South Africa), Heidi Smithwick (United States), Eleanor Sun (United States), and Donata Katai (Zimbabwe) sought spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics by participating in the Olympic trials this summer.

New Faces At DeNunzio

The Princeton women’s swimming and diving squad welcomed six fresh members as part of the Class of 2028. Maggie Squire, Charlotte Norman, Jenna Walters, Natalie Farquhar, Nicole DePree, and Katherine White will debut for the Tigers this weekend.
