WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — The women’s swimming & diving squad of Bridgewater State University commenced the second semester with a triumph and a defeat.

The Bears secured a 180-79 win over Rhode Island College but were overcome by host Eastern Connecticut State University, 195-66, during a tri-meet held on Wednesday afternoon.

BSU participated in its first event since organizing the BSU Invitational on December 7. The Bears returned home earlier this week after a training excursion in Puerto Rico.

Graduate student Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.) claimed second place in two individual competitions and contributed to two relay teams that finished second to Eastern Connecticut State.

Murray was runner-up in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:42.37 and also secured second in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 6:09.23.

She was part of the 200 medley relay team alongside junior Julie Remson (Norwalk, Conn.), senior Summer Martin (Norton, Mass.), and senior Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, South Africa), which finished second with a time of 2:03.38.

Murray also took part in the 200 freestyle relay team that placed second, alongside Fiebiger, senior Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.), and senior Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, N.H.).

Junior Emily Bradford (Pittsfield, Mass.) secured second in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:21.86 and third in the 50 freestyle at 28.92.

Senior Renee Goodale (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) achieved third in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 2:14.71, while Remson placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.68.

Matte took third in the 200 butterfly at 2:44.25, and Pelletier finished third in the 100 freestyle, recording a time of 1:00.69. Martin was third in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:55.60.

The Bears will participate in another tri-meet this Saturday afternoon in New Hampshire against Keene State and Brandeis University.
