The Council is thrilled to unveil two captivating events as part of Southend Libraries’ 2025 agenda, aimed at enthusiasts of literature, photography, and genealogy.

Cinematic Works of Sicily and Sardinia

Saturday 1 February, 1pm to 2.30pm

The Forum, Elmer Square

For those who are enthusiastic about travel, photography, and the life of D.H. Lawrence, Southend Libraries offers a remarkable event with Italian author Daniele Marzeddu.

Daniele will delve into his recently released bilingual book ‘Films of Sicily and Sardinia, on the trail of D.H. Lawrence’ and share insights from his documentary ‘Return to Sea and Sardinia’, which follows the renowned author’s travels. This special occasion is ideal for adults, including both English and Italian speakers, and attendees will have the chance to buy signed editions of the book.

Admission is complimentary, but you will need to secure your spot. Tickets can be obtained now through Eventbrite or at The Forum’s reception desk (call 01702 534111).

Family History Drop-in Session

Saturday 8 February, 10am to 2pm

The Forum, Elmer Square

If you’re keen to investigate your ancestry, Southend Libraries’ Family History drop-in session is the ideal place to start. Representatives from the Essex Society for Family History will be available to offer assistance, insights, and strategies to help researchers of all experience levels discover their heritage.

This session is free to attend; simply bring any existing information you have to initiate your research.

Cllr Matt Dent, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism, and Business, stated: “Southend Libraries consistently provide outstanding events for our community, presenting chances to dive into creativity, history, and education. From Daniele Marzeddu’s intriguing exploration of D.H. Lawrence’s path to professional guidance on family history, there is something for everyone. Southend Libraries play an essential role in our city, and I urge everyone to utilize the resources and programs available.”
