“Gaming Evolution 2025: Merging Blockchain, Web3, and AI for a New Era”

In its most recent Blockchain Gaming Industry Report, the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) has released its predictions for the trends and transitions that will influence blockchain gaming in 2025. Principal themes include consolidation of infrastructure, seamless integration of Web3, personalization powered by artificial intelligence (AI), and improved interoperability.

Founded in 2018, the BGA consists of roughly 450 members, including established and emerging game studios, venture capital firms, service companies, digital currency exchanges, guilds, significant blockchain protocols, and individuals from the blockchain gaming sector. Its yearly survey captures industry professionals’ viewpoints, illuminating challenges, opportunities, and key drivers for the sector’s advancement.

Consolidation of chains and infrastructure

The report indicates that the Web3 gaming sector is experiencing a surge in infrastructure enhancements. However, the BGA anticipates that this expansion will result in oversaturation, necessitating consolidation.

“We’re already witnessing a shift from fragmented tools to a more cohesive strategy,” Megan Doyle, Growth Marketing Director at Sequence, stated. “Web3 solutions are consolidating into comprehensive platforms, with projects emphasizing collaboration rather than duplication. This cultivates stronger, more engaged player communities and propels meaningful development for Web3 gaming.”

The overwhelming number of chains currently, nearly 16,000 monitored by CoinGecko, poses difficulties for developers and users alike. Doyle emphasized the necessity for consolidation: “Chains might merge into cohesive ecosystems, or innovations in interoperability could foster the streamlined experience that users and builders require.”

Web3 components functioning in the background

BGA highlighted a movement toward seamless integration, allowing Web3 to operate subtly in the background.

“We’re entering a stage where infrastructure must provide value, not obstacles,” Jack O’Holleran, CEO and Co-founder of SKALE Labs, remarked.

Developments in onboarding and account abstraction are crucial. “Players won’t need to engage with Web3 until there’s a compelling incentive. Their assets will be more transferable across the decentralized web,” O’Holleran elaborated.

Kristofer Penseyres, CEO of DOGAMI, underscored the importance of user experience: “The transition isn’t merely about following trends but about providing entertainment and innovative digital experiences. Just as individuals browse the web without comprehending its intricacies, users will engage with Web3 games due to the thrilling, seamless experiences provided.”

AI-powered personalization

AI is set to revolutionize gaming by enabling fully on-chain games and self-sufficient worlds. Corey Wilton, Co-founder of Mirai Labs, warned against merely branding AI as a fad.

“What really matters is crafting experiences that were previously unattainable without AI,” he added. Studios harnessing AI to challenge limits may initiate a new era in gaming.

AI’s capacity to analyze player behavior could unlock personalized suggestions and dynamic interactions. This development is anticipated to redefine player involvement and game creation.

Enhanced interoperability

The report further stated that by 2025, interoperability will extend beyond asset transfers, enabling players to carry their achievements, skills, and reputations across different platforms.

“We’re enthusiastic about cross-IP interoperability enabled through blockchain,” Giulio Xiloyannis, CEO of Pixelmon, expressed. “Picture an RPG-captured Pixelmon used as a card in a TCG game, tradable amongst players. This generates economic activity across various games.”

Jon Jordan of GamesTX pointed out the transformative potential of decentralized ownership: “Players owning and transferring assets across games aligns with the broader vision of decentralization. Achieving this necessitates collaboration among developers and a unified tech stack.”

Decentralized esports

Decentralized frameworks could transform esports, aligning them with community interests. Nokkvi Dan Ellidason, CFO of GAIMIN, highlighted the opportunities: “Decentralized esports offers a fairer, more transparent ecosystem. Immediate prize pool distributions and advanced anti-cheat mechanisms enhance trust and efficiency.”

Juan Allen, CMO of OLA GG, emphasized the challenges inherent to traditional esports: “Fans feel a disconnection, and leagues are dominated by game developers. Web3 presents shared ownership and decentralized governance, encouraging inclusivity and vibrant participation.”

Industry leaders anticipate ongoing growth for 2025

The BGA also foresees continued expansion in blockchain gaming, driven by leading game innovations and cooperation between Web2 and Web3 environments. More than 80% of participants expressed confidence in remaining within the industry over the forthcoming year. It noted strong growth in South America, the Middle East, and Africa, indicating the widening reach of blockchain gaming.

The report stressed that ownership of digital assets remains a core value, with 71.1% of respondents recognizing it as blockchain gaming’s most significant advantage.

Challenges on the horizon

According to the BGA report, onboarding and user experience represent essential barriers. Persistent misunderstandings about blockchain games being fraudulent also impede adoption.

Small to mid-sized studios transitioning to Web3 act as a vital growth catalyst.

“Web3 provides more monetization opportunities for indie studios,” Sava Tesanovic, Co-founder of Echo of the Horizon, asserted.

SocialFi integration, memecoins, and community involvement

Gaming with a social focus is gaining momentum.

“Social interactions enhance emotional support and engagement,” Ann Chien, Partner at Infinity Ventures Crypto, remarked. Heidi Christine, CMO of Pixels, added, “When players contribute to gameplay experiences, they discover purpose and connection, turning gaming into something beyond mere entertainment.”

At the same time, Christy Choi, Co-founder of AO Labs, highlighted the distinct role of memecoins: “Memecoins accelerate Web3 adoption by creating cultural touchpoints and aligning community interests, rendering the space more accessible.”

Evolution of player incentives

The play-to-earn (P2E) model is transitioning into reward frameworks that foster creativity and community-driven economies. Ubisoft’s (NASDAQ: UBSFF) Nicolas

Pouard elaborated: “Play-to-earn unveiled the constraints of its economic framework but opened the door for dynamic economic trials in real-time games.”

“At present, play-to-earn is still progressing, concentrating on encouraging positive behaviors instead of exploitative ones, nurturing creativity through user-created content, and supporting more community-centric economies,” he continued.
