Cal prepares for the Cal Diving Invitational

Cal Prepares For First Home Meet Of Season

BERKELEY- The California diving squad kicks off the 2025 segment of their season by hosting the Cal Diving Invitational from Thursday to Saturday at Legends Aquatic Center.

A total of eight teams will take part in the three-day competition. Besides the Bears, representatives from Stanford, USC, UCLA, Denver, Fresno State, BYU, Utah, and Hawai’i will also be participating. Events will commence at 11 a.m. daily and will follow a format similar to NCAA Zone regulations. The finals will showcase the top 12 divers on 1-meter and 3-meter, along with the top 8 on platform. The scores from USC and UCLA will contribute towards this weekend’s dual contests against Cal.

In the previous month, Joshua Thai, Violet Williamson, and Jane Raffetto participated in the USA Diving Winter Nationals hosted in Bloomington, IN. Freshman Rebecca Ciancaglini and sophomore Geoffrey Vavitsas attended the Minnesota Invitational, where Vavitsas secured second place in the platform dive (363.70) and was third in the 3-meter event (374.70). Additionally, Ciancaglini became the first Cal diver to take part in the Junior World Championships held in Rio, Brazil, representing Italy, and returned with a silver medal in the synchronized 3-meter dive.

Earlier in this season, Thai was honored as the first Golden Bear named the ACC Men’s Diver of the Week, marking his second career conference accolade after previously being recognized as the Pac-12 Diver of the Week.
