CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference declared on Wednesday that Marialis Kwak from the University at Buffalo swimming and diving squad was chosen as this week’s MAC Diver of the Week. The senior diver has now achieved this honor four times this season.

With three MAC institutions present, Kwak triumphed in all three individual diving events at the annual UB Diving Invite. The senior commenced the weekend on Friday with a victory in the three-meter finals, recording a school record score of 363.05. Kwak additionally secured first place in the preliminary round of the event (298.5) against a field of 30 divers.

On Saturday, the senior returned to win the one-meter finals, garnering a score of 286.50, also achieving a first-place finish in the preliminary round (302.05). Kwak was part of the Bulls’ team diving trio that placed first on Saturday as well with a score of 255.80. She then concluded the weekend competition on Sunday by winning the platform diving event, capturing first place with a score of 236.50. Kwak’s score in platform diving qualifies her for the NCAA Tower Zone Diving Championships this spring.

Kwak has triumphed in all 11 individual diving contests she has participated in this season.

The senior continues to make history, now becoming the second swimmer or diver in the program’s past to win four or more MAC Athlete of the Week honors in a single season. She joins diver Victoria Franz, who claimed the award six times last season. The senior has the opportunity to match Franz’s single-season program record with two meets remaining ahead of conference championships. No other female diver in the conference has obtained the weekly accolade more than twice this season.

The Bulls will honor Kwak and all their graduating student-athletes this Saturday at 10:40 am in the Alumni Arena Natatorium as they face the Akron Zips. A complete schedule for UB Swim & Dive can be viewed here. The Bulls will host this year’s MAC Championships from February 26th through March 1st.
