COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks have successfully captured the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Swimmer & Diver of the Week accolades for the fourth instance, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.

This season, the Mavs have dominated the awards every time they were eligible.

Talia Datilio (women’s diver), Wyatt Hermanson (men’s diver), Agata Naskret (women’s swimmer) and Andrew Scoggin (men’s swimmer) garnered these awards, determined by their performances since December 11.

CMU participated in two competitions before and after the holiday break since that date, taking part in the UNLV Invitational from December 16-18 and in a dual meet at Division I Utah last Friday (January 10).

The RMAC Diver of the Week honors mark the inaugural recognitions for Datilio and Hermanson.  Naskret, awarded the 2023-24 RMAC Women’s Swimmer of the Year, has clinched three RMAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors this season (November 6; November 26) and a total of five in her two-year career as a Maverick.  Scoggin has been recognized twice this season (October 9).

Datilio, in her second year from Mesa, Arizona, achieved a personal-best score of 229.73 points on the 1-meter springboard, finishing third as the leading Maverick diver in the dual meet at Utah.  She also secured fifth place on the 3-meter with 224.40 points after outperforming a total of ten Division I divers in the diving events at the UNLV Invitational.  Her scores at that meet were 235.20 points on the 3-meter and 213.00 points on the 1-meter.

She becomes the third Maverick to be honored with RMAC Women’s Diver of the Week this season, joining 2-time victor Jenna Hurley (October 9, November 6) and November 26 awardee Kenya Meyer.

Hermanson, a junior from Mandan, North Dakota, triumphed on the 1-meter board during last Friday’s dual at Utah with a career-high score of 287.03 points.  Already qualified for the NCAA Division II Pre-Championships, his score exceeded the NCAA qualifying benchmark of 285 points.  He additionally placed second on the 3-meter with a score of 273.00 points.

Three Maverick men have now claimed the four RMAC Men’s Diver of the Week awards presented this season, following earlier recognitions of Jax Juarros (October 9, November 6) and Ryan Campbell (November 26).

On the swimming front, Naskret clinched victory in the 200-yard backstroke and took third place in the 100 back during the UNLV Invitational.  The junior from Bydgoszcz, Poland, established NCAA Division II Championship “A” qualifying times of 1:56.49 (200) and 53.40 (100), leading the Mavericks against six NCAA Division I teams.

Naskret set the NCAA Division II all-time record of 51.96 seconds at the TYR/CMU Invitational in November and leads nationally in both backstroke events with altitude-adjusted times of 51.86 and 1:56.31 from that meet, contributing to her earning the November 26 RMAC Swimmer of the Week award.  She was also acknowledged on November 6 last season and twice previously last year.

Scoggin, a senior from Greeley, Colorado, secured victories in four events at the UNLV Invitational, outpacing every other male competitor, guiding the Mavs to a commendable second-place finish among seven teams, including five Division I entries.  He triumphed in the 100 Back in 46.91 seconds and recorded a personal-best and NCAA “B” qualifying time of 20.24 seconds in the 50 Free.

As the team captain, he also anchored the Mavs to a victorious and school-record-equaling time of 1:19.09 in the 200 Free relay and was part of CMU’s victorious teams in the 400 Free (2:54.15) and 200 Medley Relay (1:25.96).

He continued his success in the dual meet at Utah, winning the 100 Back Skins event and assisting CMU in securing second place in the 400 Medley Relay.

Scoggin was previously recognized as the October 9 RMAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week.

The Mavericks will have a break this weekend but will resume their season on January 24-25, facing off against Air Force and BYU at Air Force’s Cadet Natatorium.  The Maverick divers will also participate in the Air Force Diving Invitational the following week.

The Mavs are set to host the RMAC Championships from February 11-15.
