SANIBEL CAPTIVA AUDUBON SOCIETY
The Sanibel Captiva Audubon Society will host a “Tips & Tricks” Photography Program on January 29 at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge located on Sanibel.

The Sanibel Captiva Audubon Society is offering a complimentary “Tips & Tricks” Photography Program on January 29 at 9 a.m. at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, situated at 1 Wildlife Drive, Sanibel.

For avian fans eager to grasp some fundamentals, the scope of topics will encompass lighting and composition, as well as photography equipment — iPhones, 35mm mirrorless cameras, and similar devices — in addition to how to photograph various subjects — birds, landscapes, individuals, and more — including techniques for capturing birds in motion.

“Photographing birds can be more challenging than it seems,” stated Board Member Karl Werner. “We aim for this program to assist bird enthusiasts, like us, not only with identification but also with creating beautiful photographs to cherish for years ahead.”

The session will be divided into two segments, each lasting approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The initial segment will focus on discussing the topics. The latter segment will involve a walk along Indigo Trail or Wildlife Drive in search of subjects to capture.

“The avian activity can be quite variable,” he mentioned. “We might find sufficient bird presence to remain on Indigo Trail, or we could need to explore Wildlife Drive, so we suggest being ready for either option.”

Attendees will convene at The Roost, adjacent to the refuge’s main parking area.

Admission to Wildlife Drive is $10 or complimentary with an entrance permit or Duck Stamp.
